Albert Fredrick Parker moved to UK from Southern Ireland in the 1950s where he worked with various companies within the construction industry. He met Mary in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear where they married in 1963 and moved, due to work, to Central Scotland. Albert, best known as Fred, continued to work in the Industry as a Site Agent all over Scotland.
In 1976 he and Mary made the brave decision to branch out on their own and formed AFP Construction (Bishopton) Ltd. The early days where hard for the couple and they worked hand in hand to build the business over time. In June 1979, the company seemed to take off, Fred was able to purchase a new Bedford truck, a new JCB, new compressors and a new car, this was the start of him building the company along with Mary. Their son Kevin joined his parents at the young age of 16, over the years Fred mentored and taught him the ins and outs of the industry, his wealth of knowledge was endless. Sadly, Mary died in 2008 after suffering a major stroke. As an accomplished bookkeeper her knowledge was invaluable as she passed the reins to daughter Fiona who left her career in nursing and joined the company in 2006.
The decision by Fred and Kevin to break into plant hire was realised in 2016 and the fleet has grown rapidly over these last few years.
Fred, although in semi-retirement, still had a say in all major decisions made within the Company until the day he sadly passed away in 2018 after heart surgery, his advice will continue to impact on how the company is run.
Kevin now runs the business day to day and he and Fiona plan to continue the family business started by their parents, they look forward to continued growth and maintaining the ethos of quality and value in serving customers in the second generation.
